What Is Simple Gaijin?

What We Do

Simple Gaijin is a private Japanese language studio focused on structured, 1-on-1 coaching for serious adult learners.
 

  • We do not offer group classes.

  • We do not offer drop-in tutoring.

  • We do not offer entertainment-based language learning.

 

We build structured progression plans for adults who want real, measurable advancement in Japanese.

Whether you are preparing for relocation, pursuing JLPT certification, strengthening professional communication, or rebuilding from inconsistent self-study, our approach is deliberate and systematic.


Every student works directly with a dedicated instructor. Sessions are scheduled, intentional, and progression-based. There is accountability. There is structure. There is direction.


This is not casual study.


This is long-term development.

Why We Do It

We believe that learning Japanese deserves seriousness.
 

For too long, Japanese has been treated either as an academic exercise disconnected from real life, or as a novelty tied to pop culture. Both approaches miss the point. Language is not a hobby. It is a tool for understanding, for integration, and for real human connection.


Simple Gaijin exists because structure matters. Clear guidance matters. Accountability matters. When students are given direction instead of fragments, progress becomes measurable and confidence becomes earned.
 

We do this work because Japanese is not “just another language.” It carries history, nuance, hierarchy, regional identity, and cultural depth that cannot be reduced to flashcards or casual exposure.

How Does Simple Gaijin Work?

  1. Apply for Lessons
    Complete the inquiry form with your background, goals, and availability.

    Please keep in mind that not every applicant will be contacted. This is especially true if you send me an application with minimal information. Please be as detailed as possible if you want Simple Gaijin to reach back to you.
     

  2. Initial Evaluation
    If your application was selected for an consultation, we will reach out to you by email. I will set up a phone call or Microsoft Teams meeting with you so I can learn your goals and aspirations for learning Japanese, as well as me gauging your overall attitude towards learning Japanese. Keep in mind that not all consultations will result in me accepting you. 
     

  3. Trial Lesson
    If I feel you have the potential to learn Japanese
     

  4. Weekly Coaching
    1-on-1 sessions with accountability, homework, and measurable benchmarks.
     

  5. Long-Term Development
    Progress is tracked. Adjustments are made deliberately. Advancement is earned.
