Put the Japanese You Know to More Demanding Use
Knowing a grammar pattern and using it precisely are different challenges. As texts and conversations become more complex, you may need to follow longer explanations, choose vocabulary more carefully, or express an idea with greater detail.
Mike works with you on reading, listening, vocabulary, kanji, grammar, and conversation so those skills continue developing together. Private lessons give you time to examine what is unclear, work through an explanation, and practice understanding and producing increasingly sophisticated Japanese.

Bring Your Previous Study With You
You do not necessarily have to begin at Stage 9 or complete the earlier Simple Gaijin stages first. Tell Mike which courses and materials you have studied, how you use Japanese, and what you want to work on next. He can discuss your experience and recommend an appropriate starting point.
Keep Learning After the Capstone
Stage 12 is the final formal stage of the structured curriculum.
Completing it does not mean you have finished learning Japanese or reached a guaranteed proficiency level. Students who want to continue with Mike can move into more individualized advanced study. Depending on your goals, that may involve authentic reading, news, literature or media, conversation, writing, professional Japanese, kanji, or JLPT-related study.
For a speaking-focused goal, explore Japanese conversation lessons. For an exam goal, review the current JLPT preparation options for N5, N4, and N3 and discuss instructional fit with Mike. Curriculum stages are not assigned JLPT or other proficiency equivalencies.

Work Directly With Mike
Regular lessons are live, private, 60-minute online sessions with Mike, taken at least once per week. You work with the same teacher as your questions and priorities develop.
Bring your study background, current challenges, goals, and time zone to the conversation. Mike can discuss where to begin and which lesson times are available.
